🔬The Osteology Research Academy Boston is officially over, but the knowledge and connections formed will last a lifetime!🌟

We started this intensive 3.5-day course with a hands-on workshop on cutting-edge imaging techniques for soft tissue evaluation with top-notch experts like Albert Chan, Lorenzo Tavelli and Oliver Kripfgans. We then delved into the basics of research, from how to set up a study to publishing it in a scientific journal. We looked into how to incorporate research in a private practice setting or use it to develop a product with life-changing potential. The participants also had the opportunity to meet and connect with scientists of the calibre of Don Ingber, with his inspiring lecture on organs-on-a-chip, or Myron Spector talking about tissue engineering for soft tissue regeneration – just to mention a few.🌐

35 participants from all over the world joined us in a welcoming atmosphere where questions and diversity were the most welcome.🌍

If you have missed this exceptional opportunity to elevate your research skills, fear you not! Next year’s ORA lineup is the most exciting: London, Gothenburg, Vienna, but also São Paulo and Lucerne are on the programme. Keep an eye on our website to learn more.📅✨

Let's regenerate our patient focus!

Last week, Ronald Jung embarked on his tour in Brazil, bringing the essence of patient-oriented regeneration to the forefront of dental education. Here are the highlights:

📌 First Stop: Federal University of Santa Catarina, Florianópolis
Ronald Jung was warmly welcomed by Gabriel Magrin, professor of periodontology and ambassador of the National Osteology Group Brasil. The lucky participants were privileged to attend his engaging lecture and hands-on workshop on regeneration and immediate implantation for a whole day.

🚀 Next Stop: Osteology Practical Academy, São Paulo
Giuseppe Romito, Osteology Expert Council and vice-director at Brazil's largest dental school hosted the prestigious event in the FOUSP's premises. Ronald Jung trained the attendees in four intensive hours of hands-on exercises on successful approaches in the esthetic anterior area. The afternoon was dedicated to lectures, and Jung was then joined on stage by Marcelo Nunes and Cléverson Silva, a Leadership Team Member of the National Osteology Group Brasil, with contributions on therapeutic options in patients with implant failure and a need for labial repositioning, respectively.

✨ Last Stop: Learn-and-lunch session, São Paulo
In an exclusive boutique event, Ronald Jung shared his knowledge on how to select cases, techniques and materials in the best long-term interest of the patients. Thanks to a dedicated Q&A part and enough time for 1:1 exchanges between the participants and Jung, every attendee certainly left the event with added value for his own clinical practice.

🔍 Focused on patients' needs
Jung's enlightening lectures centred around patient-oriented care, offering participants a standard treatment protocol to achieve highly predictable esthetic outcomes.

If an instrument does not measure what you think it measures because it was designed for a different purpose, you would generally discard that instrument and replace it with a more appropriate one. The 🌟Journal Impact Factor (JIF)🌟 is one such instrument. In some scientific disciplines, including dentistry, it is believed to have quasi-magical powers that affect the reputation of institutions and individuals. But is this assumption justified?

➡️In this presentation, we will take a closer look at the JIF: Why was it developed? How is it calculated? What does it say? Why is it always one to two years late? Why has it been heavily criticised for years?

👉If you want to find answers to these questions, tune in🖥️! https://box.osteology.org/SocialNetwork/JoinGroup/125

👨‍🔬 Happy faces at the West China School of Stomatology at Sichuan University in Chengdu, China. Osteology Board member Frank Schwarz was welcomed for a visit on invitation by Man Yi, Professor and Chair at the Department of Oral Implantology and leader of the National Osteology Group in China.

After a tour through the clinic, Frank Schwarz held a well-visited lecture about translational research designs for peri-implantitis🌟. The lecture was supplemented by a talk by Man Yi reflecting on cohort studies.

📚 The afternoon was booked with a hands-on course by Frank Schwarz for 40 participants on Soft-Tissue Grafting at the same university. There was great interest by the participants in performing several procedures, including thickening and increasing the amount of keratinised tissue, harvesting autologous tissues and using substitutes in pig-jaw models.🐷👏

🤝 Later that day, Frank Schwarz also used the opportunity to meet with other representatives of the National Osteology Group leadership team in China: Yang Xiaoyu, Jiang Xi, and Zhou Yi. Topics on the agenda were the future programme and strategic developments of the Osteology Foundation’s activities in China, aiming to provide the country the best possible education in oral tissue regenerative therapies and research.📊💼📚
