Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. 
He received his Dental Degree (DDS) from University of Padova, his MS (Master of Science in Periodontology) and his Certificate of Advance Education in Periodontology from Tufts University in Boston.  He also received a PhD in Periodontal Plastic Surgery from Universitad International de Catalunya, Barcelona. 
He is serve as an instructor in the Department of Oral Medicine, Infection and Immunity, Division of Periodontics at Harvard School of Dental Medicine where he was appointed in 2011.  
In January 2012 he was also appointed Adjunct Professor in the Department of Periodontology, at University of Padova. 
In 2018 Dr. Gobbato received the AAP educator award in recognition of outstanding teaching and mentoring in periodontics form Harvard University.  
He serves as reviewer for the International Journal of Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry (IJPRD) where he is also an editorial board consultant. 
He is  both active and certified member of the Italian Society of Periodontology and Implantology (SIdP), active member of the Italian Academy of Osseointegration (IAO) and of the Italian Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (IAED). 
Dr. Gobbato has authored or co-authored original articles, review papers, case reports and book chapters. The main scientific interest is in the field of tissue integration of dental implants, implant surface characteristics,  and periodontal therapy.
