Patricio Smith received a D.D.S. (1992) and a Specialist in Periodontics degrees (1997) from the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Chile and a PhD degree in Biomedical Sciences (2006) from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Chile. He is currently Director of the School of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He runs a laboratory with facilities dedicated to cell culture, histology, cell biology, and preclinical models of oral wound healing. He has published extensively in the field of periodontology and his main research interests are focused on periodontal connective tissue biology, wound healing and regulation of inflammation. He is part of the editorial board of Journal of Dental Research and Journal of Periodontal Research and Associate Editor of Oral Diseases. He is also part of the Osteology Foundation Expert Council.
