The next generation is ready to go

«Your Smile, Our Goal: Regeneration» was the guiding motto of the National Osteology Symposium Tokyo, held on 6–7 September 2025 at Bellesalle Shiodome. The event drew more than 300 participants and brought together an impressive line-up of national and international speakers, chaired by Atsushi Saito and Ronald E. Jung, making it a must-attend for the oral regeneration community in Asia and beyond.

Teeth and implants in the aesthetic zone

To an overwhelmingly young audience the scientific program opened with treatment strategies in the aesthetic zone. Ronald E. Jung introduced the L-shape technique for anterior tooth treatment, followed by Kotaro Nakata’s insights into implant methods and strategies. Tomohiro Ishikawa and Sawako Yokoyama demonstrated approaches to hard- and soft-tissue management and guided participants through the digital workflow.

Attention then turned to periodontal regeneration. Atsushi Saito provided an overview of current therapies, while Masahiko Nikaido and Yoshitaka Nara highlighted the clinical relevance of membranes. Kentaro Imamura rounded off the session by presenting emerging biologics and bone graft materials.

Various GBR techniques and material choice

Day two focused on bone augmentation techniques and material choice. Isabella Rocchietta outlined key procedures for both anterior and posterior regions, followed by Eriko Murakawa and Yasurhiro Kizo, who explored long-term stability with different material options. Yasuko Nemoto emphasized vital points for achieving predictability in ridge augmentation.

Management of peri-implantitis

The final afternoon was dedicated to peri-implantitis treatment. Mariano Sanz presented current concepts and indications, before Motohiro Munakata, Yoshihiro Iwano, and Tomohiro Ishikawa discussed surgical and non-surgical approaches, practical requirements, and the effectiveness of reconstructive treatment.

Hands-on workshops

The workshops by Isabella Rocchietta, Mariano Sanz and Ronald E. Jung provided in depth hands-on practice for the participants. “Guided bone regeneration for minor bone augmentation procedures” as well as “Soft Tissue Management after Peri-implantitis: Enhancing Mucosal Health and Stability» and the “L-shape technique” - all workshops perfectly were aligned with the symposiums focus on aesthetic treatment outcomes and fully booked.

When campaign faces become familiar friends...

A little highlight from Tokyo, because as promised, our events are all about bringing people together. This time we had the joy of meeting Yoshitaka Nara and Tomoko Morooka in person. Nara took the stage as a speaker, while Morooka was a participant.

Both of them already hold a special place in our Osteology world. When we launched the campaign for the International Osteology Symposium in Vienna next year, we unknowingly chose their photos from the 2023 Symposium simply because their energy stood out among the crowd. To discover who they were, we even ran a little “who are they?” campaign on social media.

So finally meeting them face to face in Tokyo felt like closing the circle, a true honor and a wonderful reminder of how our community is woven into everything we do.

A big thank you goes out to our founding partner Geistlich Pharma Japan for hosting the event and all exhibitors, who contributed to the successful symposium. With the National Osteology Symposium Tokyo in the books there’s one more National Symposium to come in 2025: The National Osteology Symposium Firenze, 23 – 25 October 2025. Don’t miss.
