NOG USA Case Competition

Submit your case from 15 January - 15 July 2024

The National Osteology Group USA presents its first Case Competition. The six best oral regeneration cases in two competition categories will be selected for an oral presentation at the AAP Annual Meeting in San Diego. The best case in each category will be rewarded a prize.

Who can participate?

Residents in accredited Dental Programs in US

Young dentists (graduated from US Dental Programs in the last 3 years)

Clinical Case Categories

All cases belonging to one of the following categories and with the minimum follow up time are eligible:

Category 1:
Soft tissue or periodontal regeneration around teeth

Category 2:
Soft or hard tissue regeneration around implants 

This can include:

  • Implant site development (staged or simultaneous) OR
  • Management of hard or soft tissue deficiencies around existing implants OR
  • Management of peri-implantitis

Minimum follow-up documentation of:

  • At least 3 months for soft tissue healing
  • At least 6 months for hard tissue or periodontal regeneration

Submission Process:

  • Join the National Osteology Group USA on the BOX (free login required)
  • Go to the group. In the tab «Cases» you will find the case competition
  • To submit a case, you need to upload it to the Case Box first 
  • To join the competition, click on submit a case, and follow the instructions on the Case Competition page
  • Submit proof of eligibility via email to: heike.fania@osteology.org
    • Residents in dental programs in the US can submit proof in the form of copy of identity card.
    • Young dentists graduated from US specialty dental program in the last 3 years can submit copy of graduation certificate.

Only cases uploaded to the Case Box and submitted as described above are eligible. 

The Final

Three finalists will be selected in each of the two categories:

  • Soft tissue or periodontal regeneration around teeth
  • Soft or hard tissue regeneration around implants

The six finalists will be invited to the 110th Annual Meeting of the AAP on 31 October - 3 November 2024 in San Diego to present their cases. Detail in this respect will be shared with the finalists in September 2024.

The six presenters will receive a travel grant of 1000 US$ and free registration to the AAP Annual Meeting.

The Winners

A winner will be selected for each category and receive a trophy as well as a prize of 1500 US$, and will be featured on the Osteology Foundation's social media channels and websites.

Finalists have to present in person in San Diego. 

Presenters will be announced by the end of September 2024. 

Case Evaluation & Criteria

The de-identified cases will be evaluated by a blinded jury consisting of experienced dental experts for the Osteology Network. Finalists will be selected by a combination of jury decision and online voting (process for sharing cases online will be shared with the finalists via email). 

The following parameters will be evaluated by the jury: 

  • Scientific rationale
  • Completeness of documentation
  • Photographic documentation
  • Clinical difficulty
  • Novelty of case
  • Surgical execution
  • Clinical outcome
  • Presentation quality
