Maximizing Opportunities: Marion Arce's Scholarship Journey in Madrid

06.02.2024

What do you think went well in terms of project work during this year?

Throughout the year, I engaged me in a variety of interesting projects. Both clinical and basic science, each of which provided invaluable learning experiences. In particular, I was able to learn about the generation and work of clinical projects as well as to contribute to a longitudinal project. In addition, I eagerly anticipate the prospect of further collaboration on subsequent analyses of this ongoing endeavour. As well as collaborating on other projects in which I have participated during my time at Universtiy Complutense of Madrid (UCM).

What benefits do you take home from the Osteology Scholarship year?

I had the opportunity to share and research with many people from different places, allowing me to expand my networking and establish international collaborations. I participated in many high-quality courses and congresses, which allowed me to improve my clinical and research skills. Nonetheless, I made great friends and had personal and professional growth in research and clinical discipline. Moreover, I have the prospect of continuing to work collaboratively with the prestigious UCM periodontics team.

How did you perceive the mentorship, research team and working atmosphere?

The work environment was excellent and very pleasant with a professional team in the laboratory and the clinic. Together we developed multiple projects of the highest quality. It was an honour to be mentored by Dr Mariano Sanz. He is a highly skilled professional, an excellent mentor and a great leader who is always willing to listen, teach and support as needed. I am grateful to the clinic, laboratory team and students of Periodontics UCM.

What would you do differently if you could start the Osteology Scholarship programme again? Tough question. I think I really took advantage of all the opportunities this year, such as to learn, work and network with excellent people. I took every opportunity with the best disposition. I am not the kind of person, who reflects a lot about what could have been different.
